Kelp salsa time!

Well, we made this KELP salsa a few weeks ago, but I'm just getting around to posting the pictures now! Kelp salsa and kelp pickles became a part of my life when I worked up in Glacier Bay. It was almost a ritual to go and harvest some kelp (Nereocystis sp., or bull kelp) and make this tasty treat. So, when we went diving with Karl the other week we picked some kelp up! A massive amount of salsa resulted. The only sad thing, we thought we added enough peppers for a kick, but sadly, this doesn't appear to be the case. Despite the fact the skin was burning on our hands (all night) from all the peppers we added, we can't even detect a hint of heat! Bummer. At least you can add chili flakes for a kick when serving....

Kelp at the bottom and everything else we used to make it tasty!

All ground up in our new food processor!

4 bunches of cilantro!

Ancient canning methods

The final result!
