Visit from Jay's sister

The day we left the east coast and flew back to WA was the same day that Lee, Jay's sister, flew out west. She came to visit us and go to a friend's wedding in Bellingham. We were stoked to have her for an entire week in Anacortes! The only bummer was that we had to work because we had just taken the previous week off; but this was fine because Lee was able to go up to Bellingham and see her friend, Kira, while we were working.

I had Friday off (remember I work four 10-hr days), so while Jay worked, Lee and I met up with their cousin and friend, Sophia, in the cute town of Bow to hit up the blueberry bushes! It also happened to be the hottest day of the year in Washington - it hit 95!! Yipee! Yahoo! Rejoice! Skirts! Dresses! Sunhats! Heat! I wasn't happy, not one bit.  =) We picked a TON of blueberries between the three of us and stocked up my freezer quite well.  I'm a bit addicted now and I'm hoping to go back this week and get more, more, more! I had to bake something tasty with these fresh blueberries so I found this recipe: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Blackberry-Financiers-395439 and just switched blackberries for blueberries. This was no muffin even if it looks like a muffin. It was a dessert of almondy, buttery, blueberry goodness. Wow.Too bad I don't have little mini-muffin pans, these were so rich that a large muffin-sized bite was almost too much. But not really, we managed. to eat them just fine thank you...

We have a tradition of taking visiting family or friends to Deception Pass State Park because well, it's gorgeous. So we brought a massive amount of food (and even margaritas) to Bowman Bay and had a big dinner cookout. Here are Lee, Soph, and Jay watching the fantastic sunset that night. It got pretty chilly, but it didn't matter....we were warmed by dinner and family....

On Lee's last full day, Sunday, we took her for a big day in the Cascades. The weather was not great in Anacortes, but as we got closer to the mountains the sun came out and we clearly were going to have a big view day!  If you blow this photo (above) up, you will see little dots of Lee and Jay on the trail. Sauk Mountain is a great hike because it is steep, narrow, twisty, and gets you up to some big BIG views in a relatively short distance - as long as you aren't afraid of heights! If you look closely in the photo above, you will also see the side of Mt. Baker poking out. Not a bad day!

Happy! This also turned out to be our awesome lunch spot, where we could watch cute little pikas skirt around the rocks, whistling. If you don't know what a pika is go here for my photo: https://plus.google.com/photos/111221596171793333099/albums/5782321628642389201/5782515944870030930?banner=pwa   They are the cutest things in the world.

We had a great visit with Lee and miss her already! I've got one more blog to write (maybe next weekend?) about the fun times Jay and I have had the past two weekends playing outside. This current weekend has been darn mellow in comparison - we went to the farmers market, a friend gave us a s**tload of his fresh hops (!!), we celebrated our third anniversary (awhhhh.... can we have another party like that again?), and we picked blackberries. Yummy.

Since we celebrated #3 I thought I should put in a photo. This February will be a decade together! Couldn't be happier.....
