Whistler Blackcomb

We had far too much fun in BC with our friends Mike and Erik. Those two guys drove all the way up from Oregon to play in the snow with us - and boy did we play!
We arrived at our hotel (The Edgewater Lodge) in the evening and headed right off to the hot tub (which we had some trouble finding in the dark). The view from the hot tub looked out over a small lake and Blackcomb Mountain. Whistler was a bit hidden behind the trees, but we could also see that mountain. We couldn't believe our luck - the mountains had apparently been hidden in clouds for the past few weeks. But when we arrived the sky was clear, the moon was almost full, and you could see the trails and the snocats grooming all the lines of snow in the mountain. So, as we drank some good beer in the hot tub we watched the snocats groom under moonlight. Gorgeous!

The view of Blackcomb Mountain from our room!

Goofy faces after an awesome day on the slopes

As far as the skiing goes, it was potentially the best skiing I've ever done. The two mountains were massive - I can't imagine even covering the trails in a week and we only had two days! We stayed up in the higher elevations, including tons of time above the treeline. The snow was better and the views were jaw-dropping from up top. The trail map was deceiving, the trails always looked shorter than they were. They kept going and going and going. I think it probably took us about a half hour to get from almost the top of the mountain down to our car when we finished for the day. We were all so tired, sore, and exhausted by the end of the day because we all skied so hard. But it was a great feeling.

In terms of the skiing, Mike and I tried out our Olympic legs and took off down the women's Olympic run on Whistler. Jay and Erik spent lots of time popping in and out of the trees. And, of course, there were some pretty epic wipe outs that involved a lot of laughter (only one wipe out was concerning for a few seconds, but all was well in the end). Eric takes the award for the most entertaining face plant - when he surfaced his beard had turned completely white. And Mike D. took off like superman in slow motion on the easiest trail on the last run....face planting and sliding down the trail while laughing the entire time. Awesome.

After a hard days work

We didn't want Jay to drown

Funny series of photos of goofy friends

The Coast Range from the road. It was a crappy drive home with horrible views.

I'm thinking Jay and I might be spending more time in BC.

Hopefully some more photos from the mountain will follow - Erik was the man with the camera.
